Book Club 2020 Schedule

--2020--

Meetings are at 10:00 am at the home of the host unless otherwise indicated. 

January 13 -- Deanne B. will host. We will meet at the Newport Library Conference Room.  Book selection is Educated by Tara Westover.  There are ten copies available through the Newport/Driftwood Library system. Also, there are two Large Print copies and two books on CD available through the Newport/Driftwood Library system. 

February 10 -- John A. will host. We will meet at the Newport Library conference room.  Book selection is: Winners Take All:  The Elite Charade of Changing the World by Anand Giridharadas. Two copies are available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.

March 9 -- Mary Ann will host.  We will meet at her home  Book selection is: Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist (2018), by Eli Saslow.The Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system has 3 copies available, one of which is large print.

April 13 -- John P. will host. We will meet at the Newport Library conference room. Book selection is: Never Out of Season by Rob Dunn.  The library system has one copy.
   Extra work for the diligent:  A second book by the same author on a similar topic is Never Home Alone. It would be an interesting supplemental read. Also, a short video on "never home alone" can be viewed at  https://www.pbs.org/video/the-microbes-among-us-r89364/

May 11 -- Deral will host. We will meet at the Newport Library conference room. Book to be selected later.  Book being considered is: The Library Book, by Susan Orlean. There are many copies available through the Newport/Driftwood library system.

June 8 -- Pat will host. We will meet at the Newport Library conference room. Book selection is The nation city: why mayors are now running the world (2020), by Rahm Emanuel.  The Newport/Driftwood library system has 1 copy. 


July 13 -- Brent will host. We will meet at the Newport Library Conference Room. Book to be selected later. Book selection is: American Dirt, by Jeanine Cummins (2020) There are multiple copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.


August 10 -- Kris will host. We will meet at her home. Book selection is The Grandmaster, by Brin-Jonathon Butler.  There is one copy available through the Newport Library.

September 14 -- Sue will host. We will meet at her home. Book selection is:  White Fragility, by Robin DiAngelo. One copy and one audio book on CD are available thought the Newport/Driftwood library system.


October 12 -- Craig will host. We will meet at his home. Book selection is Education of an Idealist (2019) by Samantha Powers.  The local library has five copies available.

November 9 -- Deanne will host.We will meet at the Newport Library conference room  Book to be selected later.

December 14 -- John A. will host.  We will meet at the Newport Library conference room. Book  selection is:  How the South Won the Civil War:Oligarchy, Democracy, and the Continuing Fight for the Soul of America, by Heather Cox Richardson

May -- Brent will host. Book to be selected later.Book being considered:  The Martian, by Andy Weir. The library has multiple copies in several formats.    The Power Worshippers, by Katherine Stewart

June -- Kris will host. Book to be selected later.

July -- Sue will host. Book to be selected later.

August -- Craig will host. Book to be selected later.

September -- Deanne will host. Book to be selected later.
