2013 Schedule


2013 Schedule

January  – No meeting. 
February  11 -- Deral has selected This Republic of Suffering, by Drew Gilpin Faust. Book club will be held at Brent's home.

March 11 – Tom will host and has selected Loot: The Battle over the Stolen Treasures of the Ancient World, by Sharon Waxman.

April 8  -- John P. will host and has selected The Great Mortality: An Intimate History of the Black Death, the Most Devastating Plague of All Time,   by John Kelly

May 13  -- Mary Ann will host and has selected Outlaw Platoon: Heroes, Renegades, Infidels, and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan (2013),  by Sean Parnell and John Bruning
June 10 -- Kanwal will host and has selected How to get filthy rich in rising Asia: A Novel (2013),  by Mohsin Hamid.  (There are two copies in the local library.)

July  8 -- John A. will host and the book selection is The Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin (2012), by Erik Larson  (there are four copies available in the local library)
August  12 – Sue to host, book to be selected later.

September 9 – Brent will host, and the book selection tentatively is Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief (2013), by Lawrence Wright   (there are two copies in the local library)
October 14 – Cynthia will host, book to be selected later.

November 11  Deral  has tentatively selected the book,  Frankenstein's Cat: Cuddling Up to Biotech's Brave New Beasts (2013), by Emily Anthes.   Book club will be held at Brent's home.
December 9 -- TBA

King Leopold's Ghost, by Adam Hochschild.  

And a bit of trivia--The movie Apocalypse Now was loosely (very loosely) based on Heart of Darkness.

May's event will be hosted by Cindy.
