2015 Schedule

--2015-- 
Meetings are at 10:00 am to noon at the home of the host unless otherwise indicated.

January 12 --  Sue will host. Book selection is: The True American : murder and mercy in Texas (2014) by Anand Giridharad​as.  (One copy available through the local library.)

February 9 --  Deral's book selection. To be haeld at Brent's home. Book selection is:  Collection of Sand, by Italo Calvino (one copy available through local library.)

March 9 --  Brent will host. Book selection is: The Reluctant Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid. (Two copies are available through the local library.) [There is a move of the same name based on the book available on DVD through Netflix. It is worthy of watching as a supplement to reading the book. But the movie is different enough from the book that it does not replace reading the book.]

April 13 --   John P. will host. Book selection is The Shallows, by Nicholas Carr. 3 copies avialable through the Newport/Lincoln City/Tillamook library.

May 11 --  Mary Ann will host. Book selection is Astoria : John Jacob Astor and Thomas Jefferson's lost Pacific empire : a story of wealth, ambition, and survival, by Peter Stark (2014). 1 copy available through the Newport/Lincoln City/Tillamook library.

June  8  --  John A. will host. Book selection is  Merchants of Doubt:  How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming, by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway (2010). Two copies are available through the Newport/Lincoln City/Tillamook library.

July 13  -- Pat will host. Book selection is There was and there was not : a journey through hate and possibility in Turkey, Armenia, and beyond, by Meline Toumani  (2014).  1 copy available through the Newport/Lincoln City/Tillamook library.

August 10  -- Kris will host. Book selection is Drunk Tank Pink: And Other Unexpected Forces That Shape How We Think, Feel, and Behave (2014) by Adam Alter.  3 copies are available through the Newport/Lincoln City/Tillamook library.

September 14 -- Sue will host. Book selection is Rise of the Warrior Cop: the Militarization of America's Police Forces, by Radley Balko. One copy is available through the Newport & Driftwood libraries.

October 12 -- Deral will host.   Book selection is God’s Bankers: A History of Money and Power at the Vatican, by Gerald Posner.  There are two copies available through the Newport & Driftwood Library system.

November 9 -- Brent will host. Book selection is The Collapse of Western Civilization: a view from the future (2014), by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway.  There are not copies available from the local library.

December 14 -- John P. will host. Book selection is  Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nahisi Coates. One copy is available through the Newport & driftwood libraries.

May 9 --  Sue will host. Book selection is Gilead (2004), by Marilynne Robinson.  Five copies of the book plus one copy of the book on CD are available through the Newport/Driftwood library system.
