2017 Schedule

--2017--

Meetings are at 10:00 am to noon at the home of the host unless otherwise indicated.

January 9 -- Sue will host. She has selected the topic Global Warming (Climate Change.)  Book club members are to read a book of their choosing on the topic for discussion.

February 13 -- Craig will host. Book selection is  The Light Between Us by Lara Lynne Jackson. (No copies available in the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system. Is available through Amazon.com or Powells.com)

March 13 -- **Canceled**. Brent will host. Book selection is American Character: A history of the epic struggle between individual liberty and the common good (2016) , by Colin Woodard.   There are two copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.

April 10 -- John P. will host. His book selection is Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging (2016), by Sebastian Junger. (Copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.)

May 8 -- Mary Ann will host. Book selection is Wet Engine: Exploring the Mad Wild Miracle of the Heart (2012), by Brian Doyle  (Two copies are available through the Newport/Driftwood Library system.)


June 19 -- ***Meeting 3rd Monday this month*** John A. will host. Book selection is Strangers in Their Own Land: anger and mourning on the American right (2016),  by Arlie Russell Hochschild. (One copy is available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.)

July 10 -- Pat will host. Book selection is Lao Tzu : Tao Te Ching : A Book About the Way and the Power of the Way (1998), by Ursula K. Le Guin  (1 copy available through the Newport/Driftwood library system)

August  14 -- Kris will host. Book selection is Words Are My Matter: Writings About Life and Books, 2000-2016, with a Journal of a Writer’s Week (2016), by Ursula K. Le Guin (3 copies are available through the Newport/driftwood Library system)

September 11 -- Sue will host. Book selection is  Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are? (2016), by Frans de Waal (3 copies available through the Newport/Lincoln City library system.)

October 9 -- Craig will host.He has selected the topic of capitalism.  Select a book, fiction or non fiction, on capitalism.  Non fiction books on the topic would include books by Ayn Rand or Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.  An alternative is watching TED talks on the topic.

November 6 [Note: 1st Monday] --  John P. Will host. Book to be selected later. Book selection is Color of Law (2017) by Richard Rothstein. There is one copy available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.


December 11  --  Brent will host. **We will met at the Newport Public LIbrary conference room.** Book selection is American Character: A history of the epic struggle between individual liberty and the common good (2016) , by Colin Woodard.  There are two copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.

March 12 -- Pat will host. Book selection is The Hidden Life of Trees (2016), by Peter Wohlleben. One copy is available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system. .

April  9 -- Kris will host. Book selection is:  The life-changing magic of tidying up : the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing (2014), by Marie Kondo. There are two copies available throught Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system as well as a book on CD and an ebook format.

May 14 -- Sue will host. Book to be selected later.
