Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 Schedule


--2016--

Meetings are at 10:00 am to noon at the home of the host unless otherwise indicated.


October 10 -- John A. will host. Book selection is:  American Amnesia: How the War on Government Led Us to Forget What Made America Rich, by Jacob S. HackerPaul Pierson  (One copy available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.)

November 14 -- Pat will host. Book selection is: The Sympathizer, by Viet Thanh Nguyen (2015) (There are 3 copies available in the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.)

December 12 --  Kris will host. She has selected the topic of how Christmas has changed. Book club members will bring a story or poem about Christmas to share, of their own composition or that they have read and enjoyed.

--2017--

January 9 -- Sue will host. She has selected the topic Global Warming (Climate Change.)  Book club members are to read a book of their choosing on the topic for discussion.

February 13 -- Craig will host. Book selection is  The Light Between Us by Lara Lynne Jackson. (No copies available in the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system. Is available through Amazon.com or Powells.com)

March 13 -- Brent will host. Book selection is American Character: A history of the epic struggle between individual liberty and the common good (2016) , by Colin Woodard.   There are two copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.

April 10 -- John P. will host. His book selection is Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging (2016), by Sebastian Junger. (Copies available through the Newport/Driftwood/Tillamook library system.)

May 8 -- Mary Ann will host. Book to be selected later.

2016-2017 Schedule

January 11 -- Mary Ann will host. Book selection is:  Book Of Wolves and Men (1978) by Barry H. Lopez.

February 8 -- John A. will host. Book selection is: America's bitter pill : money, politics, backroom deals, and the fight to fix our broken healthcare system  (2015), by Steven Brill. (One copy is available thorugh the Newport/Driftwood library system.)

March 21 [note 3rd Monday!) --  John P. will host. Two books will be discussed.Pat's book selected is Negroland by Margo Jefferson. (There are three copies available through the Newport/Driftwood library system.)  John's book selected is Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nahisi Coates.

April 18 [note 3rd Monday!] -- Kris will host. Book selection is The Immense Journey: An Imaginative Naturalist Explores the Mysteries of Man and Nature, by Loren Eiseley. (There are no copies available through the Newport/Driftwood library system.)

May 9 --  Sue will host. Book selection is Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, by Bill Bryson.   (Four copies of the book are available through the Newport/Driftwood library system.)

August 8 -- John P. will host. Book selection is: Listen, Liberal: Or, What Ever Happened to the Party of the People? (2016) by Thomas Frank.  (No copies yet in the Newport/Driftwood library system.)
